Embedded Intelligent Technologies
The Department Embedded Intelligent Technologies (EIT) is specialized in mechatronic systems, medical robotics, innovative high speed and high temperature processes, and industrial applications. Recently within the AComIn project the team gained expertise in 3D design, 3D modelling and 3D prototyping. It is the EIT researchers that (together with the group of Prof. Virginio Cantoni from Pavia University) produced 3D figures of historical characters and 3D tiles for visually impaired people for the exhibition “Pavia. The Battle. The Future – 1525-2015, Nothing was the same again” organized as a satellite event of EXPO-2015 in Milan, Italy. Also, for the Brera gallery in Milan, Italy a tactile tile for the painting “Christ and the Samaritan woman at the well” was created for visually impaired people. The team has also experience in reconstruction of 3D internal structure of industrial parts, building elements, and dental applications.
Head of Department: Prof. Dr. Dimitar Karastoyanov
Prof. Dimitar Karastoyanov, PhD (Male), with PhD in Robotics, is Professor of Mechatronics in IICT- BAS. He conducts research on design, dynamics and intelligent control of robots and mechatronic systems. His professional interests include real-time systems, adaptive control and robotics, 3D technologies, tribology as well as high speed and high temperature processes. He has published more than 100 papers in journals and refereed conference proceedings, has 5 monographs, 4 patents and 13 patent applications. In the new projects his group is engaged with the 3D design, modeling and printing of artifacts oriented to visually impaired users.
